Tree- Perfect example of how to live, grow, transition, change and even die with grace - Tree symbolism is a way of classifying, identifying and organising the array of energetic knowledge they contain and incorporating this array in our daily life - Tree: antiquity and immense and enduring strength, also protection - Tree: recovery from illness, ambition or wishes fulfilled, thing having to do with family, blessings of nature, good fortune, stability, shelter and security Symbol of Connection to All Things- roots that reach deeply into the soil -> acknowledging the connection to and accepting nourishment from Mother Earth - Leaves and branches extend into the sky -> acknowledging the Sun and the Moon, accepting their energy that it transforms into nourishment - Deeply connected to the world around you and dependent on it for the ability to grow and thrive Symbol of Family and Ancestry- Sprouts from a seed, grows and branches out, sees how far it can go, and then creates a new fruit that gives life to the next generation, to begin anew - Connection to ancestors -> generation of family - Intricate network of branches, showing the continuity through all generations -> connected through ever-expanding branches to our parents and grandparents and to our children and our children's children Symbol of Growth into a Beautiful and Unique Organism- Trees look similar when they are young, as they grow older, they weather storms and are battered by the forces of wind and water -> branches may break and grow back in different directions, soils underneath them erodes, causing them to grow even stronger roots to hold on - After some time, each tree becomes unique and beautiful in their eccentricity and character Symbol of Birth and Immortality- Most trees lose their leaves in fall and enter a death-like hibernation during Winter. During Spring, the tree sprouts tiny buds, bursts forth with dramatic blooms and leaves are born again -> suggests fresh start on life, giving out positive energy, good health and a bright future - Although trees grow old, they bear seeds that contain its very essence, which then the tree becomes immortal Symbol of Growth and Strength- Young tree starts out with shallow roots that strengthen and grow deeper over time - Branches start us small buds and stretch upwards, reaching towards the Sun, Moon and Heaven -> Just like how people grow stronger over time, striving for greater knowledge and experiences Biblical Reference of Tree- The Bible begins and ends with a tree, and the Saviour of the world dies on a tree
- Other than God and people, trees are the most mentioned living thing in the Bible - The Tree of Life is often mentioned in Eden -> tree appears to have been a source of ongoing physical life - The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil -> Adam was permitted to eat of every tree in the garden except for this tree, and if he was to eat its fruit, he would surely begin to die -> suggests a supernatural provision of life as after Adam and Eve ate the fruit their Creator provided, they were designed to live forever, but to do so they likely needed to eat from the tree of life -> fall of mankind and how sin, death and suffering entered the world when Adam disobeyed God's commandment and ate from this tree --> once they sinned, they were banned from the Garden, separated from the tree, and subject to physical death, just as they had experienced spiritual death - Since Eden, death has reigned throughout history - On the New Earth, our access to the tree of life is forever restored -> people can freely eat the fruit of the same tree that nourished Adam and Eve -> human beings will draw their strength and vitality from this tree -> The newness and freshness of Heaven are demonstrated in the monthly yield of fruit, which is not merely to be admired but consumed - John tells us that "the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations" (Revelation 22:2) -> the inhabitants of the New Earth are referred to as nations, which they will not be eliminated but healed -> Our physical life and health, even our healing, comes not from our intrinsic immortal nature but from partaking of God's gracious provision in the fruit and leaves of the tree of life
