I have thought about developing the idea of glasses further. I wanted to create the effect of colours canceling each other out when it overlaps each other. However with acetates and paints, when the colours overlap each other, it actually stands out even more, and would not cancel each other out. So, I thought about challenging myself in using digital painting, as photoshop might be able to create the effect I want. I looked at the video game 'Hue' for my inspiration. 'Hue' is designed by Henry Hoffman and Dan Da Rocha, and received a lot of awards and nominees by creating this adventure-based puzzle game. In this game, the player is able to alter the 'world' by changing the background colour of the game, solving their way out of this 'world'. I first thought about testing the idea out with making an abstract digital painting and see what kind of emotions I could evoke by changing the colours of the painting, however it seems like a failure. Therefore, instead of creating an abstract digital painting, I have decided to create something similar to the game 'Hue', and make it figurative. Similar to 'Hue', I thought about painting barriers, and when the background colour changes, the barrier would disappear as it blends into the background. I have created three barriers that symbolises different things that people are afraid of. I have drawn the two human figures in black to make them like shadow figures and wouldn't stand out in the piece. The right figure has holes in it, symbolising that it's incomplete and there are parts of him missing, while the figure on the left is holding up three balloons, symbolising happiness, innocence and pure. After creating these three digital paintings, I have asked a friend of mine to create website for me in order to create something like the game. Please click here to visit the website. By clicking the 'colour' buttons, the background colour changes, and a new perspective is formed. I want to make it like an analogy of showing that by clicking the colour, people are also embracing it and accepting it, which connotes the idea that by accepting your own fear, you are able to walk through it and take a closer step towards happiness.
